We know some people have questions about how Gay Travel Exchange (GTX) uses artificial intelligence—and, just as importantly, how we don’t. GTX helps LGBTQIA+ people discover places, events, and community. That mission hasn’t changed. We use AI carefully and transparently, as a tool that supports discovery and operations—not as a substitute for human judgment about what we publish as places, events, or editorial content.
This page explains how we use AI in the product, the safeguards we apply, and how it relates to our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
1. Human-first
People remain responsible for GTX. Where AI assists with listings, events, guides, articles, or other published content, staff review applies before that work goes live in the ordinary course. In-app assists (such as chat replies or trip ideas) are meant to help you explore—they are not authoritative substitutes for your own judgment, local knowledge, or safety decisions.
LGBTQIA+ lived experience and community context stay central. AI supplements the work our teams and members already do; it does not replace queer voices or editorial judgment about what belongs in GTX.
2. How we use AI in the product
We may use AI to assist with specific, limited tasks, including:
- In-app chat assistance—answers, summaries, and related help where those features are available.
- Trip planning and inspiration assists that suggest itineraries or ideas based on your request and available GTX context.
- Helping our team enrich places, areas, events, guides, and articles—for example summaries, tags, flyer or OCR assist, and paraphrased blurbs. We do not copy third-party directory prose wholesale as GTX’s voice.
- Optional AI-assisted profile or bio features when you choose to use them through in-app settings.
- Optional image generation in chat or for illustrative product content, where those features are enabled.
This list is illustrative, not exhaustive. Features may change as we improve the App. When AI plays a major role in something you see, we aim to keep that use proportionate to the feature and subject to the safeguards below.
3. How we don’t use AI
We do not use AI to:
- Fabricate fake venues or events and present them as if they were real listings.
- Create deceptive deepfakes or alter images of real people or events in ways that rewrite the visual record.
- Train our own foundation models on your private messages for sale or unrelated commercial exploitation.
- Replace community moderation and safety judgment entirely with automated systems.
4. Your data and trust
Our Privacy Policy fully applies to AI features. When you use an AI-assisted feature, we may send the inputs needed for that request (for example chat text or relevant profile fields) to third-party providers such as Google Gemini. Those providers process data under their terms and privacy policies, as described in Privacy Policy Section 6.
You can limit some AI-related features through in-app settings where available (for example toggles related to AI-generated bios or proactive messages). We design features so that sensitive use of your content is tied to what you asked for—not open-ended harvesting for unrelated purposes.
5. AI-generated visuals
We may use AI-generated imagery sparingly for illustrative or concept art—for example place-type graphics, banners, or article artwork—when a suitable real photograph is unavailable or not appropriate. That kind of imagery is meant to be understood as synthetic or illustrative, not as documentary photos of real people or events.
We do not use AI to fabricate news scenes, impersonate real individuals, or “enhance” reality in deceptive ways. Basic photo cleanup of real images continues under ordinary editorial standards.
6. Safeguards
- Human review for staff-published, AI-assisted content in the ordinary course.
- Rate limits and operational controls on AI features to reduce abuse and runaway cost.
- In-app controls to turn off or limit some AI-related experiences where we offer them.
- Ongoing attention to quality, fairness, and bias where practical as we operate and improve the App.
What this means for GTX
Responsible use of AI helps Gay Travel Exchange stay useful, discoverable, and sustainable—so we can keep building tools for LGBTQIA+ travelers and community. AI may help us move faster; the heart of GTX remains human community, authentic queer travel context, and your choices about how you show up.
